Revised Water Charges – Announcement

At its meeting of 31/08/2021, the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Geroskipou decided that, as from the fourth quarter of 2021, that is from 01/10/2021, the water consumed at premises within the municipal boundaries will be billed on the basis of new, revised charges.

The revision of the water sale charges has become necessary because, by decision of the Council of Ministers dated 09/06/2021, the sale price of potable water supplied by the Paphos Government Water Supply System to the Local Water Supply Authorities (Municipal and Community Councils) of the wider Paphos area was revised. This revision concerns an increase in the charges from €0.64/cubic metre to €0.82/cubic metre and aims to ensure compliance with National and European legislation on the application of a uniform price for the supply of potable water from Government Water Works.

The new water charges reflect the cost of the Water Supply Department of the Municipality of Geroskipou in serving every category of consumer, without one type of use being subsidised by another, and provide for incentives to users to use water efficiently and responsibly. The new charges include the environmental and resource depletion levy.

Consumers are urged to use water sparingly and to limit its use to their strictly necessary activities, in order to reduce the water consumption at their premises and to avoid high charges.

The water charges are set out in detail in the tables below.

Other Important Information

  • The consumer bears sole responsibility for the good condition and maintenance of the plumbing installation beyond the water meter. They are also responsible for any overconsumption recorded, whether due to a leak in the installation beyond the water meter or for any other reasons.

  • For timely prevention and to avoid wasting water and being overcharged, the Municipality recommends that consumers regularly check their plumbing installations and regularly monitor their water meter reading.

  • Objections to Water Supply charges are accepted only after completion of the special form available at the Municipality’s Finance Department. In order to be examined, all objections must be accompanied by the necessary supporting documents (e.g. an EAC statement for an uninhabited residence, a plumber’s certificate for the repair of a fault, etc.). Objections that are not fully substantiated will not be accepted.

  • In the event of overdue debts, the Municipality will carry out disconnections of water meters without any further notice. Reconnection of the water meter will require full settlement of the overdue debts, as well as the water meter reconnection charge, currently set at €20 plus VAT.

  • Under Article 134 of the Municipalities Law, on 31st December of each year a surcharge of 10% is imposed on overdue Water Supply debts.
