The Municipality of Geroskipou kindly asks members of the public attending the funeral of the late Mayor of Geroskipou, Michalis Pavlides, tomorrow Thursday, 13 January, to use the car park at the Sculpture Park rather than parking around the church or the Municipal Hall.

The Municipality of Geroskipou announces with the deepest sorrow the untimely death of the Mayor of Geroskipou, Michalis Pavlides.

Michalis Pavlides served our town with passion and conscientiousness, both as a Municipal Councillor for 7.5 years and as Mayor for 10 years (2012-2021), contributing through his work to the development and progress of Geroskipou. Before his election to the office of Mayor, he had developed extensive charitable activity, serving as President or member of the governing bodies of sports and cultural associations. He was distinguished by his integrity, sincerity and honesty.

At an extraordinary meeting, the Municipal Council observed a minute’s silence in his memory and decided to:
– Declare three days of mourning
– Fly the flags at the Municipality’s offices at half-mast
– Hold the funeral at municipal expense
– Have the Municipal Council and the Municipality’s staff attend the funeral
– Open a book of condolences

It was further decided that, as a mark of honour to Mayor Michalis Pavlides, proposals to highlight the contribution and work of the deceased be considered at a forthcoming meeting of the Municipal Council.

District Court ruling in favour of the Municipality of Geroskipou over the SAPA works defects

The Municipality of Geroskipou announces that the hearing of the legal action against the Paphos Sewerage Board over the damage sustained by the greater part of Geroskipou’s road network during the execution of the sewerage system works has been completed.

Under the ruling of the Paphos District Court, SAPA must pay the Municipality of Geroskipou an amount of more than €1,500,000, plus legal costs.

The Municipality of Geroskipou was represented by the law firm Ioannis Papazacharia.

 

 

Resignation of the Mayor of Geroskipou, Michalis Pavlides

The Municipality of Geroskipou announces that on Friday, 26 November 2021, the Mayor Michalis Pavlides submitted his resignation from the position of Mayor of Geroskipou for health reasons.

The Municipal Council of Geroskipou convened yesterday, 29 November 2021, in an extraordinary session and was informed of this unfortunate development. The Municipal Council of Geroskipou expresses to Mayor M. Pavlides its warmest wishes for a speedy recovery. It also wishes to thank him for his great contribution to the Municipality of Geroskipou, which he served both as Mayor for 10 years and as a Municipal Councillor for 7.5 years, contributing through his work to the development and progress of Geroskipou.

The duties of Mayor of Geroskipou are assumed by Deputy Mayor Kyriakos Hadjivasilis.

 

 

Signing of Contracts with a Banking Institution for a Loan to Purchase the Plot of the Old Silk Factory / Former Paphos KEN

On Tuesday, 23 November 2021, a contract was signed with Astrobank for a loan of 2.5 million euros, for the purchase by the Municipality of Geroskipou of the plot of the old silk factory / former Paphos KEN.

 

Plot no. 674, with a total area of 26,757 sq.m., lies just 300 m north of the Square. It is the only open space of comparable size remaining within the urban fabric of Geroskipou. It represents a vital reserve for the town, and the aim is to develop it appropriately following studies and dialogue with residents.

“IEROKIPEION FREE UNIVERSITY IN PAPHOS” “Cyprus in the Revolution of 1821”

 

 

 

The second lecture of the 18th Year of the “Ierokipeion Free University in Paphos” will take place on Friday, 26 November 2021 at 7.00 p.m., at the Events Hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre.

The theme of the lecture has a commemorative character, as it concerns the Revolution of 1821 and, more specifically, the role and participation of Cyprus in it. The speaker will be the former Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece, Mr Giorgos Georgis, Professor of History and Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities at Neapolis University Paphos.

The lectures of the “Ierokipeion Free University” are open to the public and are broadcast live on Radio Paphos 93.7 and recorded by the University of Cyprus radio station UCYvoice 95.2. At the end of the presentations, both the public present and the listeners of Radio Paphos may take an active part in the discussion that follows.

Projects worth 28.5 million euros for the Municipality of Geroskipou over the past 8 years

 

This morning the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiades, inaugurated the connecting road between Geroskipou and the seaside kiosks (Marios Tokas Avenue), in the presence of state officials, local authorities and a large crowd, following a blessing service conducted by the Metropolitan of Paphos, Georgios.
In his address, the President of the Republic referred, among other things, to the municipalities of Paphos, expressing his satisfaction with the organisation they have demonstrated. As he noted, the projects they had proposed to date were mature projects ready for execution, which is why they show the highest absorption rate in relation to their budgets and the projects announced.
With regard to the Municipality of Geroskipou, Mr Anastasiades spoke of projects amounting to 28.5 million euros over the past eight years, which have either been completed, are under way, or have been set in motion.
Among these, as he noted, are:
The construction of the road network linking Paphos Airport with the Municipal Beach,
The expansion of the Kindergarten,
The upgrading and construction of sports facilities,
The Regional Medical Centre “Christoforos Chatzilambris”, currently under construction,
Development projects worth 17.5 million euros concerning the second phase of Archbishop Makarios Avenue, the construction of the junction of Makarios Avenue and Ippokratous Street, the upgrading of the traditional core of the Municipality, and the section of the Geroskipou Northern Bypass currently under construction – up to the boundary of the Paphos municipal limits, which will be completed in early 2022.
The construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Kinyras Street with the second bypass, which is at the stage of tender award and has been assigned to the Municipality, the President of the Republic said, along with the preparation of a study for the upgrading of the remaining section of Makarios Avenue up to the boundary of Kolone.
Finally, he warmly thanked everyone for the close cooperation they enjoy, stressing that the government will always stand by their side.

Opening Lecture of the 18th Cycle

The «Ierokipeion Open University in Paphos», jointly organised by the Municipality of Geroskipou, the University of Cyprus and Radio Paphos, opens its doors for the 18th cycle of lectures. A dynamic and engaging cycle of lectures invites Paphos residents of all ages to a fruitful dialogue on the pressing issues that concern our society today.
The opening lecture will be given on Friday 29 October 2021 at 7.00 p.m., in the Events Hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre, by Professor Leondios Kostrikis of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus, on the topic: «Vaccination against Covid-19 and the upcoming mutations of the SARS-Cov-2 virus».
The lectures of the «Ierokipeion Open University» are open to the public and broadcast live on Radio Paphos nationwide on 93.7 and recorded by the University of Cyprus radio station UCYvoice 95.2. Following the presentations, the public, as well as the nationwide listeners of Radio Paphos, can take an active part in the discussion that follows.
