Meeting of the Mayor of Geroskipou with the new Police Director of Paphos

A meeting was held today (4/11) between the Mayor of Geroskipou, Nikos Palios, and the new Police Director of Paphos, Kleitos Erotokritou.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Mayors of the Municipal Districts and other members of the Paphos Police Directorate.

The meeting addressed matters concerning the policing of the municipal area, as well as issues relating to the quality of life of citizens.

The Mayor of Geroskipou, Nikos Palios, thanked the new Police Director of Paphos, Kleitos Erotokritou, for his prompt response to the Municipality’s request for a meeting, noting that close cooperation between the two sides will help address the various problems.

The Municipality of Geroskipou is accepting tenders for the granting of a licence to use the municipal café located in the Timi Municipal District of the Municipality of Geroskipou, for a period of two (2) years.

Interested parties may obtain the tender documents from the Municipality’s Offices – Secretariat Department on the ground floor of the Municipal Hall, Geroskipou Square, 8210 Geroskipou, P.O. Box 63015, during working days and hours, or by clicking on the link https://ierokipia.org.cy/document-category/applications/
Tenders must be submitted in a sealed envelope in the Municipality’s Tender Box (entrance of the Municipal Hall), marked “Tender for the granting of a licence to use the municipal café located in the Timi Municipal District of the Municipality of Geroskipou”, no later than Friday, 22 November 2024 at 13:00.

BY THE MUNICIPALITY OF IEROKIPIA

As part of its social contribution and with the principal aim of providing practical support to students, the Municipality of Ierokipia is announcing a number of scholarships and grants for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The main criteria for selecting recipients are:

• Resident of Ierokipia (Geroskipou, Konia, Timi, Agia Marinouda and Acheleia)
• Exemplary conduct
• Clean criminal record
• Secondary school leaving certificate grade of 17.5/20 and above.
• Fulfilment of military obligations prior to submission of the application, or exemption or deferral.
• Certificate of the year of study at the universities of Cyprus, at higher education institutions in Greece or in another country.
• Maximum gross family income of €38,000 (father and mother).
• In the case of a large family (4 or more dependent children), the income limit is increased by €1,000 for each child.
• Attendance must be regular, continuous and not by distance learning.


Applications may be submitted until Friday, 22 November 2024, at 2.00 p.m.

OPEN INVITATION FOR RESIDENTS TO TAKE PART IN COMMITTEES OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF GEROSKIPOU

With the aim of attracting and engaging as many citizens as possible in the management of municipal affairs, the Municipality of Geroskipou is issuing an open invitation to all residents (of the municipal districts of Geroskipou, Konia, Timi, Agia Marinouda and Acheleia) to take part in Committees set up by the Municipal Council.
The Municipal Committees are as follows:
• Committee for the Upgrading of Historic Centres & Squares
• Committee for European Programmes & International Relations
• Committee for Social Welfare, Social Cohesion & Protection of the Citizen
• Committee for Traffic & Parking Areas
• Committee for Youth & Sport
• Committee for Cultural Development & Cultural Heritage
• Committee for Green Spaces & the Environment
• Committee for the Local Economy & Entrepreneurship
• Committee for Tourism Development
• Committee for Health & Cleanliness
The relevant expression of interest form is posted on the Municipality’s official website www.geroskipou.org.cy.

Interested parties may also contact the Municipal Hall or the Offices of the Municipal Districts to obtain the relevant expression of interest form, during working days and hours.

The closing date for the submission of expressions of interest is 15 November 2024. Submissions may be made either by hand, or electronically to citizens@geroskipou.org.cy, or by fax no. 26 961 247.

Notes

1. Residents’ participation in Municipal Committees involves the provision of advice and expertise on various matters that concern the Municipality.
2. Interested parties must be 18 years of age or over.
3. Each interested party may take part in only one Municipal Committee.
4. The submission of an expression of interest does not automatically imply its approval by the Municipal Council of Geroskipou. For each Municipal Committee, four (4) residents will be selected, on the basis of educational background, professional standing, experience, voluntary activity, etc.

IN EACH MUNICIPAL DISTRICT

By decision of the Municipal Council, the Municipality of Geroskipou is planning to hold an assembly in each of its municipal districts in November.

The introduction of Municipal Assemblies is a new form of resident participation in municipal affairs, launched by the Municipality of Geroskipou with the aim of giving a platform of expression to every citizen, to each and every person who wishes to contribute to the common effort.

The programme of Assemblies, by municipal district, is as follows:

– Acheleia: Tuesday 12/11, 6:00 p.m., Offices of the Municipal District

– Geroskipou: Friday 15/11, 6:00 p.m., Events Hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre

– Konia: Wednesday 20/11, 6:00 p.m., Offices of the Municipal District

– Timi: Friday 22/11, 6:00 p.m., Offices of the Municipal District

– Agia Marinouda: Wednesday 27/11, 6:00 p.m., Offices of the Municipal District

Launch of the 21st Lecture Series “Ierokipeion Free University in Paphos”

The 21st lecture series of the “Ierokipeion Free University in Paphos” initiative, co-organised by the Municipality of Geroskipou, the University of Cyprus, and Radio Paphos, got off to a successful start. The first lecture was held on 25 October, on the central theme “Democratic theory, rights, and the Cyprus problem”.

The opening lecture was delivered by Christos S. Kyriakou, Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Classics and Philosophy at the University of Cyprus, who discussed key concepts of Democracy and analysed aspects of the Cyprus problem in the light of these concepts.

The “Ierokipeion Free University” initiative, now marking 21 years of service, offers the residents of the Municipality of Geroskipou and the wider area the opportunity to learn about important and topical scientific subjects through accessible presentations by experts from the University of Cyprus, as well as other academics and researchers from partner institutions.

The lectures take place in the Events Hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre and are open to the public. They are broadcast live across Cyprus by Radio Paphos on the frequencies 93.7fm (Paphos), 98.8fm (Nicosia, Larnaca, Famagusta, Polis Chrysochous), 95.5fm (Limassol), as well as online via the website www.radiopafos.com.

At the closing ceremony of the lecture series, certificates of attendance will be awarded to participants.

The programme’s media sponsors are the newspaper “Politis” and the University of Cyprus radio station, UCYvoice 95.2.

HERMES AIRPORTS LTD. has submitted an application for planning consent to carry out the expansion of Paphos International Airport within the areas designated for airport development purposes, in the Paphos district. As part of securing planning consent, HERMES AIRPORTS LTD. commissioned LA SOLAS SERVICES Ltd to prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the Paphos International Airport expansion works.

In order to enable the interested public to submit any comments and proposals concerning the environmental impact of the project’s construction and operation, the draft Environmental Impact Assessment Study prepared by the consultancy firm LA SOLAS SERVICES Ltd is hereby published.

The draft Environmental Impact Assessment Study is available in electronic form at the following link https://www.aeoliki.com (select PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS/HERMES_AIRPORTS_PAFOS).

Under Article 26(7) of Law 127(I)/2018, “Before submitting a Study, the project owner is required to hold a public consultation and at least one public presentation before finalising its content, so as to give the local government authority concerned and the public the opportunity to submit comments and proposals on the environmental impact of the project.”

The public presentation will take place on Tuesday 29 October 2024 at the Events Hall of the Timi Municipal District at 6:00 p.m.

Working Meeting of the Cyprus Healthy Cities Network of the World Health Organization.


The Cyprus Healthy Cities Network of the World Health Organization, made up of the Municipalities of Nicosia, Limassol, Strovolos, Lakatamia and Eastern Paphos in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, is advancing the procedures for its accreditation to the WHO European Healthy Cities Network.
As part of the accreditation process, a Working Meeting was held today, 22 October 2024, at the Ministry of Health, in the presence of:
the Director of Medical and Public Health Services, Dr Elisavet Konstantinou,
the Mayor of Lakatamia, Dr Fotoula Hatzipapa,
the Mayor of Eastern Paphos, Mr Nikos Palios,
the Political Representatives of the Municipality of Nicosia, Ms Koula Papamichael
of the Municipality of Limassol, Mr Simos Koufalis
of the Municipality of Strovolos, Mr Pavlos Georgiou
and departmental officers of the Municipalities, coordinated by the Senior Health Officer and National Coordinator of the Cyprus Healthy Cities Network of the WHO, Ms Chrystalla Kaiafa Nikolaidou.
Also present was the Adviser to the Ministry of Health and National Coordinator of the Greek Inter-Municipal Healthy Cities Network, Ms Daizy Papathanasopoulou, who presented the progress of the accreditation of the Cyprus Network.
During the meeting, decisions were taken concerning the Network’s Action Plan and the policy it will follow in areas relating to Health Promotion and the Social, Urban, Physical and Economic Environment of the Cities.
Elections then followed for the new Board of Directors, which, according to the results, is as follows:

“Democratic theory, rights and the Cyprus problem”

The Municipality of Eastern Paphos, the University of Cyprus and Radio Paphos

are organising, for the 21st year, the lecture series entitled “Ierokipeion Open University in Paphos”. The aim of the programme is to offer the public of the Municipality of Eastern Paphos, as well as of the wider Paphos district, the opportunity to be informed, through accessible lectures, about scientific topics of general interest.

The lectures are open to the public and are delivered by members of the teaching and research staff of the University of Cyprus in the Events Hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre. They are also enriched by the participation of members of the teaching and research staff of other universities, as well as specialists from scientific institutes and organisations.

All lectures begin at 7 p.m. and are broadcast live by the radio station “Radio Paphos Pancyprian” on the frequencies 93.7fm (Paphos), 98.8fm (Nicosia, Larnaca, Famagusta, Polis Chrysochous), 95.5fm (Limassol) and online at www.radiopafos.com.

On completion of the lectures, certificates of attendance will be awarded at the closing ceremony

to the public who take part in the institution.
