Renaming of the Municipality of Eastern Paphos – Municipality of Geroskipou

Friday, 2 August 2024

Press Release

Pursuant to section 8 of the Municipalities Law, the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Eastern Paphos decided, at a special session held on 1 August, to change the name of the Municipality.

With the aim of highlighting the local identity of the area, the Municipality is being renamed the Municipality of Geroskipou. The decision will be communicated to the Minister of the Interior and, subsequently, the Council of Ministers, by a decree to be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, will change the name of the Municipality.

The renaming of the Municipality is the first step in promoting the area’s strongest cultural asset, the legacy of the Cyprian Aphrodite and her Sacred Gardens. It is expected that the new name will showcase the area’s local comparative advantage, lend momentum to every claim or aspiration of the new Municipality and assist it in achieving its objectives (developmental, economic, tourism-related, cultural, environmental and others).
