Following the new measures announced by the Government yesterday (23/3), the Municipality of Geroskipou wishes to inform the public that:

a) Parks, Playgrounds and Open-Air Sports Grounds.

b) Public gathering places, including squares, picnic areas, and beaches.

2. All retail businesses within the municipal boundaries must suspend their operations, with the exception of those businesses included in therelevant Decree issued by the Minister of Health.

4. Street vending is discontinued within the municipal boundaries

5. Work at construction sites is discontinued, except for projects of public benefit, subject to the relevant authorisation of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works.

6. The attendance of citizens at places of religious worship, such as churches and other places of prayer, is prohibited.

We urge our fellow residents to exercise self-restraint, to comply with the decisions announced from time to time by the government and to take the necessary preventive measures for the protection of themselves and their families.

Mindful of the exceptional times we are living through, the Municipality of Geroskipou and the associates of the Geroskipou Municipal Prevention Team continue to stand by our residents.

With full respect for the personality and the rights of every person, we provide counselling and support on matters of psychological–emotional strain caused by the enforced stay at home (confinement or quarantine) owing to the situation caused by the pandemic from Covid-19.

1. The Municipality of Geroskipou invites tenders for the hire of a stone collector together with its operator for 80 hours ( ± 20%) to clean the Geroskipou municipal beach of scattered pebbles ranging from 1 cm to 20 cm in diameter.
2. The estimated budget for the Contract amounts to eight thousand euros (8,000 Euro), excluding VAT.

3. The machine may be either self-propelled or towed and must be of high horsepower (140 HP to 200 HP).
4. The duration for carrying out the object of the Contract is set at a period of 45 days from the date of signing the contract and is to be carried out in three phases.

TENDER TERMS

Further to previous announcements, and as part of the effort to address the growing spread of the coronavirus and to safeguard public health, we wish to inform the residents of Geroskipou of the following:

1. In-person visits to the Geroskipou Town Hall are not permitted until 30/4/20. For urgent matters, the public is kindly asked to call 26 962 324 and 7777 86 60.
2. The Municipality’s Finance Department, and by extension its cash offices, will remain closed until 30/4/20. Payments can be made online, through the Municipality’s website and through the website www.jccsmart.com. With regard to the payment of fees and taxes, the payment deadline is extended until 30/4/20. During this period, the Municipality will not disconnect water supply for unpaid bills.
3. The operation of the Multipurpose Children’s Care Centre, the Adult Centre, the “Iris” Counselling Centre, the Municipal Prevention Team (D.O.P.), the “Petrideio” Municipal Library, the Michalis Chr. Kyprianou Municipal Stadium, the Tassos Papadopoulos Olympic Swimming Pool and the “Ch. Zoppos” Open-Air Sports Ground is suspended until 30/4/20.
4. The holding of civil weddings is suspended until 30/4/20.
5. All scheduled events of the Municipality of Geroskipou are postponed until 30/4/20.
6. We recommend avoiding the use of the municipal playgrounds.
7. All essential services of the Municipality of Geroskipou continue to operate normally.

The above measures are in line with the decisions of the Council of Ministers and the relevant guidelines of the competent Ministries, and their aim is to protect both residents and the Municipality’s employees. The measures may be adjusted depending on developments and/or on the guidelines issued by the state.

The Municipality of Geroskipou asks for the understanding of its residents regarding the measures it is obliged to take due to the state of emergency our country is facing.

We urge our fellow residents to remain calm and to observe the preventive measures that have been announced for the protection of themselves and their families.

We ask the businesses and residents of Geroskipou to observe the measures decided by the government on 15 March 2020, as part of efforts to tackle the increasing spread of the coronavirus and to safeguard public health.

We ask our fellow residents, unless there is an urgent need, to avoid visiting the Municipality’s Services for as long as required. Under the measures adopted, the number of people present at the cash desks and service offices must not exceed one person per eight square metres of usable space, including employees.

We advise our fellow residents to remain calm and to take the preventive measures that have been announced in order to protect themselves and their families.

As part of the collective effort being made to limit the spread of the “Covid-19” virus and in recognition of its responsibility to address the situation that has arisen, the Municipality of Geroskipou informs the public that it is suspending all events, as well as the operation of the following services, until 20 March 2020.

• Adult Centre
• Multi-purpose Children’s Activity Centre
• Municipal Swimming Pool
• Municipal Library

In addition, it informs the public that the receipt and payment of building permit applications, the receipt/issuance of applications for licences to sell alcoholic beverages, tobacco and for keeping dogs, as well as the service of the public by the Municipal Treasury, are also suspended until 20 March 2020.

For the same period, the receipt of any other kind of application is suspended, as is the conduct of civil marriages.

At the same time, we remind the public that payments to settle bills can be made online through the Municipality’s website (www.geroskipou.org.cy) and through JCC. For any assistance, the public is kindly requested to contact the Finance Department by telephone on 26961424, 26961427 and 26961516.

1. Limit your movements

• Avoid unnecessary movements of travel.
• If you need to move, do not use a bus or a taxi.

2. Avoid contact with other persons

• Maintain at least 1 meter of distance from other people.
• Do not go to your workplace or school.
• Do not go to crowded public places (cinemas, bars, coffee shops) and events (parties in enclosed areas), unless it is absolutely necessary.
• Try to avoid visits to homes; it is better to be in open areas with natural ventilation.
• Avoid visits to hospitalized patients or care homes and rehabilitation centres.

3. Comply with basic rules of hygiene

• Perform frequent careful handwashing with liquid soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid sharing items with others.
• Self-monitor for symptoms.
• Daily temperature checks are advised.

If you develop any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, then stay at home and immediately contact the direct 24-hour call line, Central Ambulance Calls Control, at 1420 and inform them of your symptoms and your recent travel.

The above measures are considered essential for reduction of the spread of the virus in the community. Application of these measures is strictly the responsibility of the person who has received these instructions and it depends on his/her maturity and conscience.

Following the latest developments regarding the confirmed cases of coronavirus in Cyprus, and as part of the broader effort being made by the State to limit the spread of the disease, the Municipality of Geroskipou kindly asks its residents who have recently travelled to the countries/regions listed below, whether or not they present symptoms, to avoid visiting the Municipality’s premises, in line with the instructions issued by the Ministry of Health.

Preventive Measures Against the New Coronavirus COVID-19 – Guidelines for Vulnerable Groups from the Ministry of Health

The local workshop on the theme “Closing the Loop: Challenges and Solutions”, organised by the Municipality of Geroskipou in cooperation with the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, concluded on Tuesday 10 March 2020, generating new ideas that will inform Cyprus’s next steps in relation to the European project “Interreg Med BlueIslands”.

The local workshop, held as part of the implementation of the European project Interreg Med “BlueIslands”, was attended by state officials and policymakers, representatives and experts from Local Authorities, as well as other stakeholders from the public and private sectors.

Delivering an address at the workshop, the Mayor of Geroskipou, Michalis Pavlides, highlighted the environmental impact of the pollution caused by the enormous quantities of waste and its ineffective management, noting the numerous actions that the Municipality of Geroskipou has undertaken to date on matters of the environment and public health.

Mr Pavlides also referred to the programmes in which the Municipality participates, which aim to reduce waste and to strengthen environmental awareness through the recycling process and the campaigns that the Municipality organises at regular intervals in cooperation with non-profit companies, organised groups, private companies, schools and other environmentally conscious citizens.

During the local workshop, Environment Officer of the Department of Environment Athina Papanastasiou presented the “Interreg Med BlueIslands” project & best practices for tackling the problem of plastic pollution in Mediterranean tourist destinations, while the Health Officer of the Municipality of Geroskipou, Marios Nikitas, presented the topic “Best Practices and the Role of Local Authorities”.

The Interreg Europe projects “EURE” and “2Lives” were presented by ANEL European Projects Officer Eleni Malekkidou, and the project “Interreg Balkan-Mediterranean ‘MELTEMI’: Wind against marine litter” was presented by the Officer of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, Dr Konstantinos Antoniadis.

During the workshop, private businesses presented an exhibition of alternative ecological products to replace the use of plastic.
