Meeting of the Mayor of Geroskipou with the President of DISY

On Sunday, 18 April 2021, the Mayor of Geroskipou, Michalis Pavlides, held a meeting with the President of DISY, Mr Averof Neophytou, and a delegation from the party.

During the meeting, the Mayor briefed the President of DISY on the projects currently under way (Health Centre, Connecting Road, Seafront, two parks), as well as those expected to begin (Regeneration of the Historic Core, Kinyra Roundabout, Archbishop Makarios III Roundabout), with a total value of 17 million euros. A tour of various projects being carried out within the municipal boundaries followed.

In his remarks, the Mayor of Geroskipou stated that the conclusions of two independent studies demonstrate the need to create a municipality in eastern Paphos with the Municipality of Geroskipou at its head.

A Green Partnership for Earth Day

The Municipality of Geroskipou, in collaboration with the Embassy of Israel in Cyprus and the “AKTI” Centre for Studies, has installed an ecological artistic installation at Geroskipou municipal beach, which will function as an enormous bin for the disposal and collection of recyclable materials.

The installation ceremony took place on 20 April 2021, between the 1st and 2nd snack-bar, in the presence of the Ambassador of Israel to Cyprus.

The “Seashell,” a work by visual artist Elena Daniil, is a functional artistic intervention in the space: an oversized wire seashell, six (6) metres in size! Beach visitors will be able to place their recyclable waste in the “belly” of the seashell, which the “AKTI” team will count and analyse, feeding its database. After sorting at source, the waste will then be sent for recycling.

This is the first official collaboration between the three bodies, and the aim is to continue with a series of environmental actions on the basis of a green agenda.
