New play equipment installed in Geroskipou’s parks

As part of the Municipality of Geroskipou’s efforts to improve the quality of life of its residents, new and modern play equipment meeting the relevant European safety standards has been installed in playgrounds and green spaces within the municipal boundaries. The cost of purchasing the equipment came to 25,000 Euros, while the Municipality is proceeding gradually and in a targeted manner with specific actions and interventions, with the ultimate aim of upgrading and enhancing the existing parks and green spaces.

Invitation to Take Part in the “EURODYSSEE” Work Placement Programme in Europe

The Union of Cyprus Municipalities, in cooperation with all the Municipalities of Cyprus and the Department of Labour, invites young unemployed people to take part in EURODYSSEE, the European work experience programme.

The EURODYSSEE programme is offered by the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance, through the Department of Labour in cooperation with the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, and gives young people aged 18-32 the opportunity to gain work experience in another European country (occupational/vocational training) for a period of 4-7 months) in one of the regions that are members of the EURODYSSEE programme. Cyprus is able to send 4-5 young people each year to gain practical experience.

The programme provides a grant covering part of the living costs borne by participants, insurance coverage (including accident, third-party liability and social insurance), the opportunity to attend intensive foreign-language courses during the training period, and assistance with accommodation.

The mobility grant is paid to participants by the contracting bodies of each host country, and its amount depends on the regulations of the host country.

The programme is open to young people who:

  1. Are between 18 and 32 years of age on their date of departure,
  2. Are registered as unemployed with the offices of the Public Employment Service,
  3. Have completed training or studies (holding a relevant certificate or qualification) in the field to which the work placement offered by the position relates.
  4. Are legally resident in the Republic of Cyprus
  5. Are citizens of the Republic of Cyprus or citizens of any other European Union member state and have the right of free access to the European labour market and can move freely and without formalities within the territory of the European Union. Priority will be given to participants whose destination is a country other than their country of origin.
  6. Have a sufficient knowledge of the language that will be used during the work placement
  7. Are not receiving more than one source of funding for the relevant work placement
  8. Have not previously been funded by the Department of Labour for a work experience programme (Eurodyssee, Leonardo da Vinci, Erasmus+).

25 Years of the Municipality of Geroskipou

On this day, 25 years ago, on 17 April 1994, the first
municipal council of Geroskipou was elected, an event that officially
sealed the founding of the Municipality.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, the Municipality of Geroskipou has
prepared a special logo, which will accompany all the
activity of the local authority throughout 2019.

Participation of the Geroskipou Children’s Choir in the Choral Parade 2019
The Geroskipou Children’s Choir, under the direction of conductor Isavella
Christofidou, will take part in the Choral Parade 2019, organised by the
Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Nicosia, this coming Saturday 13 April.
The aim of the event is to highlight the timeless value of music and
especially of song in human life, through its beneficial effect
and as a means of collective cultural expression.
More than seventy ensembles from Public and Private Primary, Secondary
General and Secondary Technical and Vocational Education schools, Universities, Conservatories,
Municipalities, Communities and other cultural bodies, with a varied repertoire such as
traditional music, world music, jazz, popular music and more, will join
their voices, from 4.00 to 6.00 p.m., and will move from Eleftheria
Square towards Ledra and Onasagorou streets, filling the streets in the
centre of Nicosia with beloved songs. At the end of the event,
the largest choir in Cyprus’s history will be formed and will sing in Eleftheria
Square!

The Municipality of Geroskipou announces that it is accepting proposals from registered
companies, cultural bodies, event organisers, artistic groups,
artists and non-profit organisations for the compilation of the
programme of the cultural events «Ierokipia», which will
take place next September.
Interested parties may submit their proposals,
– either electronically, to the address npalios@geroskipou.org.cy

no later than Monday 27 May 2019.
Proposals must be accompanied by a detailed description and curricula
vitae or DVDs, CDs, internet references, publications, etc.
Each proposal must contain a detailed statement of its cost, and
VAT must be specified.

On Saturday 30 March 2019, at 8.30 p.m., hundreds of millions of people,
in more than 150 countries around the world, will come together to celebrate
the planet by switching off their lights for one hour, “Earth Hour”.
The Municipality of Geroskipou, in support of the global effort to protect
our planet, is taking part once again this year in this campaign,
by switching off the lights of the Municipal Hall and of Geroskipou Square from
20:30 to 21:30.
The Municipality of Geroskipou calls on all its residents, as well as on all our
fellow citizens, to support this effort by switching off the lights of their
homes and business premises for one hour, on Saturday 30 March, between 20:30 –
21:30.
