Launch of the 21st Lecture Series “Ierokipeion Free University in Paphos”

The 21st lecture series of the “Ierokipeion Free University in Paphos” initiative, co-organised by the Municipality of Geroskipou, the University of Cyprus, and Radio Paphos, got off to a successful start. The first lecture was held on 25 October, on the central theme “Democratic theory, rights, and the Cyprus problem”.

The opening lecture was delivered by Christos S. Kyriakou, Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Classics and Philosophy at the University of Cyprus, who discussed key concepts of Democracy and analysed aspects of the Cyprus problem in the light of these concepts.

The “Ierokipeion Free University” initiative, now marking 21 years of service, offers the residents of the Municipality of Geroskipou and the wider area the opportunity to learn about important and topical scientific subjects through accessible presentations by experts from the University of Cyprus, as well as other academics and researchers from partner institutions.

The lectures take place in the Events Hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre and are open to the public. They are broadcast live across Cyprus by Radio Paphos on the frequencies 93.7fm (Paphos), 98.8fm (Nicosia, Larnaca, Famagusta, Polis Chrysochous), 95.5fm (Limassol), as well as online via the website www.radiopafos.com.

At the closing ceremony of the lecture series, certificates of attendance will be awarded to participants.

The programme’s media sponsors are the newspaper “Politis” and the University of Cyprus radio station, UCYvoice 95.2.
