Legal Action by the Municipality of Geroskipou against the Paphos EOA and the Consortium Operating and Maintaining the Sewage Treatment Plant

The Municipal Council of the Municipality of Geroskipou, at its extraordinary session held on 27 December 2024, decided to proceed with legal action against the Paphos District Self-Government Organisation and the Consortium operating and maintaining the Sewage Treatment Plant.

The Municipality of Geroskipou is compelled to take this step because, despite its repeated representations over the past five months, the sewage network of the Paphos EOA continues to overflow and manholes located on Germaninas Street, near the Geroskipou Municipal Beach, keep overflowing, with the result that a large volume of sewage ends up in the sea.

The problem has existed for more than a decade and, because the situation has become intolerable, the Municipality of Geroskipou declares that it will do whatever is necessary to hold those responsible to account and to defend the interests of the Municipality and the safety of its citizens.

Owing to the situation created by this problem, the Municipality of Geroskipou informs the public that this particular road will be closed to vehicles, as it has become impassable. The public is also urged to avoid swimming in this particular area for public health reasons.

We call on all those involved, as well as all the competent state services, to take all the necessary measures for the immediate resolution of the problem.
