Art Exhibition at the Geroskipou Municipal Gallery, APOTHIKI

“A Sense of Cyprus”

Art Exhibition at the Geroskipou Municipal Gallery, APOTHIKI

The Municipality of Geroskipou presents the art exhibition “A Sense of Cyprus” by local artists at the Geroskipou Municipal Gallery, “APOTHIKI”, 5 Kerkyras Street, on 5 October 2019 at 20:00.

Six artists, six different forms of expression, bring together their creations, drawn from their personal experiences and their connection with the nature of our island. Ina Kritioti and Fotoulla Kyprianou capture magical landscapes and moments from the island through their lens, while Christine SteinbergMund, Kiara Tsokkou Timm and Alison Leggat take us on a journey with their own brushstrokes, as Ourania Panagi Varnava expresses the beauty of Cypriot nature through her clay.

Inspired by the light of the Mediterranean, the colours and scents of Cypriot nature and its landscapes, each artist creates distinctive works of art in her own way and with her own unique form of expression.

From canvas to clay, from paint to photography, each work holds its own treasure and story, taken and inspired individually from the beauties of the island and the artist’s experiences. Each artist offers her own ‘personal touch’ with a different form of expression, technique and material, contributing to and presenting the final, varied result of this visual arts exhibition.

Opening on 5 October 2019 at 8 p.m. by the Member of Parliament for Paphos, Mr Ilias Myrianthous.

The exhibition will run until 15 October 2019.

Monday – Friday: 3 p.m.-7 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday: 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. / 3 p.m.-7 p.m.

The “Ierokipia” events continue

With a concert by the “Laiki Estoudiantina”, the “Ierokipia 2019” events organised by the Municipality of Geroskipou continue.

The 17-member orchestra and vocal ensemble, under the artistic direction of Christos Alexandrou, will perform the most important and well-known classic popular songs, at the Kato Vrysi site in Geroskipou, on Friday 20 September, at 8:00 in the evening.

Admission to the “Ierokipia” events is free.

Protest Event

The Municipality of Geroskipou calls on the residents of Geroskipou to attend the protest event organised by the Paphos District Committee of AKEL this coming Saturday 14/9 at 10.00 a.m., near the chapel of Agios Nikolaos (Geroskipou coastal area), with the aim of preserving the important finds recently brought to light.

We recall that the Geroskipou Municipal Council, in view of the great archaeological and historical value of the finds (a large Sanctuary complex of the Hellenistic period, with cisterns and hydraulic installations indicating the existence of a grove and gardens in connection with the cults on the site), decided at its meeting of 23/7/19 to demand the continuation of the excavations with the aim of the full unearthing of the monument, its preservation and, ultimately, its promotion.

The Municipality of Geroskipou makes it clear that it will support every effort, from whatever source, directed towards the preservation of ancient Ierokipia.

Farewell, our beloved friend!

The Municipality of Geroskipou expresses its sorrow at the untimely and unexpected death of the great composer and songwriter Lavrentis Machairitsas.

Beyond being an incomparable artist, the late L. Machairitsas was a man of social conscience, which he demonstrated by taking part, on a voluntary basis, in the Municipality of Geroskipou’s “Solidarity Festival” in 2013. In 2010 and 2018, L. Machairitsas performed at the opening concerts of the “Ierokipia” events.

Farewell, our beloved friend!
