Participation of the Geroskipou Children’s Choir in the Choral Parade 2019
The Geroskipou Children’s Choir, under the direction of conductor Isavella
Christofidou, will take part in the Choral Parade 2019, organised by the
Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Nicosia, this coming Saturday 13 April.
The aim of the event is to highlight the timeless value of music and
especially of song in human life, through its beneficial effect
and as a means of collective cultural expression.
More than seventy ensembles from Public and Private Primary, Secondary
General and Secondary Technical and Vocational Education schools, Universities, Conservatories,
Municipalities, Communities and other cultural bodies, with a varied repertoire such as
traditional music, world music, jazz, popular music and more, will join
their voices, from 4.00 to 6.00 p.m., and will move from Eleftheria
Square towards Ledra and Onasagorou streets, filling the streets in the
centre of Nicosia with beloved songs. At the end of the event,
the largest choir in Cyprus’s history will be formed and will sing in Eleftheria
Square!

CULTURAL EVENTS “IEROKIPIA 2019”

The Municipality of Geroskipou announces that it is accepting proposals from registered
companies, cultural bodies, event organisers, artistic groups,
artists and non-profit organisations for the compilation of the
programme of the cultural events «Ierokipia», which will
take place next September.
Interested parties may submit their proposals,
– either electronically, to the address npalios@geroskipou.org.cy
– or by post, to the address Municipality of Geroskipou, P.O. Box 63015, 8210

– or by fax to 26 961 247
no later than Monday 27 May 2019.
Proposals must be accompanied by a detailed description and curricula
vitae or DVDs, CDs, internet references, publications, etc.
Each proposal must contain a detailed statement of its cost, and
VAT must be specified.

On Saturday 30 March 2019, at 8.30 p.m., hundreds of millions of people,
in more than 150 countries around the world, will come together to celebrate
the planet by switching off their lights for one hour, “Earth Hour”.
The Municipality of Geroskipou, in support of the global effort to protect
our planet, is taking part once again this year in this campaign,
by switching off the lights of the Municipal Hall and of Geroskipou Square from
20:30 to 21:30.
The Municipality of Geroskipou calls on all its residents, as well as on all our
fellow citizens, to support this effort by switching off the lights of their
homes and business premises for one hour, on Saturday 30 March, between 20:30 –
21:30.

Doxology for 25 March 1821

On the occasion of the national holiday of 25 March 1821, a doxology will be held
on 25 March at 8.30 a.m. at the Holy Church of Agios Spyridon,
officiated by Protopresbyter Fr. Ioannis Pantopios.
The day’s commemorative address will be delivered by Mr D. Pamboris, a teacher at the Geroskipou Lyceum.
The doxology will be attended by teachers and delegations of pupils from the
secondary and primary education schools of Geroskipou.

Obligations of Dog Owners

MUNICIPALITY OF GEROSKIPOU
OBLIGATIONS OF DOG OWNERS

The Municipality of Geroskipou informs all its residents that, in accordance with the Dogs Law, all
dog owners are required to obtain a dog-keeping licence from the Municipality of
Geroskipou.

To issue a dog-keeping licence, the following must be submitted:
1. A health certificate or health record book for the dog, issued by a registered veterinarian.
2. Proof that the dog has been microchipped (microchip).
3. A registration certificate from the State Veterinary Services.
A dog owner is considered to be any person, at least sixteen years of age, who
holds a dog-keeping licence from the Municipality of Geroskipou and has the dog under their care. The
living conditions of the dog must not pose risks to public health,
the safety and welfare of people. In addition, the dog owner must have
a sign posted at the entrance of their premises with the warning “BEWARE OF DOG”, and
must ensure that their dog does not cause a nuisance or roam freely in
other areas.

OFFENCES AND PENALTIES
Under the Law, any person who-
(a) Keeps a dog without a keeping licence, or a dog that is not registered and microchipped,
(b) keeps a dog in breach of the provisions of this Law,
(c) takes any action with intent to deceive, or which is likely to deceive,
the Competent Authority or the Director in the registration or control of dogs under this
Law,
(d) abandons their dog or fails to take appropriate measures to prevent its escape or
getting loose,
(e) allows or tolerates that the dog of which they are the owner, or which they have under their
care-
(i) causes a disturbance through loud and continuous barking that constitutes a nuisance to the public,
(ii) soils or contaminates any place with excrement without collecting it,
(iii) roams freely on a public road or in any public place without being
leashed, or in a place belonging to another person without their consent,
(f) in any way violates the provisions of this Law,
is guilty of an offence and, upon conviction, is liable to a term of imprisonment or a
fine, or both such penalties.

It is emphasised that the Municipality of Geroskipou will proceed with legal action against all
dog owners who have not obtained the required dog-keeping licence.

Call for Expressions of Interest to Present Exhibitions at the Geroskipou Municipal Gallery

As part of its cultural activities, the Municipality of Geroskipou
announces that it is accepting proposals from visual artists and/or from
organised cultural groups for the presentation of solo or group
exhibitions at the “Apothiki” Municipal Gallery for the year 2019.
This call is addressed to all artists
working in the field of the visual arts (painting,
photography, sculpture, installations, video, etc.).
Interested persons may send their proposal and/or request
further information at the email address

Documents required to submit a proposal:
– a description of the exhibition/concept
– a CV of the artist(s)
– previous activities (in the case of a group or association)

Cracking down on the phenomenon of mobile telephony antenna installations

In our effort to crack down on the phenomenon of mobile telephony antennas being
installed within the municipal boundaries of Geroskipou without first
obtaining the required licences from the Local Authority, you are kindly requested to
notify us of their existence so that all the necessary
measures can be taken on our part for their removal.

Naming of the Municipal Park as «Giorgos Stefanou Park»

Naming of the Municipal Park as «Giorgos Stefanou Park»

At a simple ceremony held today (20/2), the Municipality of Geroskipou
honoured the memory of a former Year 6 pupil of the 2nd Primary School
of Geroskipou, Giorgos Stefanou, who passed away so prematurely and unjustly
about three years ago, on 31/12/2015.
Specifically, the municipal park on Charalambou Kalaitzi Street in
Geroskipou was given the name of the late Giorgos Stefanou.
The ceremony was held in cooperation with the 2nd Primary School
of Geroskipou and the Parents’ Association.
