Launch of the free dog microchipping and registration scheme by the State Veterinary Services
The implementation of the “Free Dog Microchipping and Registration Scheme” began on 1 August 2019. Its aim is the mass microchipping of dogs and, by extension, to make it easier to identify the owners of dogs that have been abandoned, lost, or stolen.
The Free Dog Microchipping and Registration Scheme runs for four months, from 1 August to 30 November 2019, and aims to cover approximately 20,000 dog microchippings across Cyprus.
The Scheme consists of two measures:
– The first measure concerns all citizens who wish to microchip their dogs. Only natural persons who are dog owners may participate in this measure.
– The second measure concerns animal welfare organisations and will cover the microchipping and registration of stray dogs.
The microchipping of dogs and their registration in the Dog Registry will be carried out free of charge by the State Veterinary Services, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the following District Veterinary Offices and Stations:
-District Veterinary Office of Nicosia (22805241)
-District Veterinary Office of Limassol (25819512)
-Avdimou Rural Veterinary Station (25814326)
-District Veterinary Office of Larnaca (24821275/24821276)
-Skarinou Rural Veterinary Station (24322358)
-District Veterinary Office of Paphos (26821261)
-Polis Chrysochous Rural Veterinary Station (26815226)
-District Veterinary Office of Famagusta (24824555)
When visiting to have the microchipping carried out, the dog owner must bring their ID and their dog’s up-to-date health record.
To make it easier for community residents who wish to participate in the Scheme, on-site visits by Veterinary Services officers can be arranged for dog microchipping, provided that, in consultation with the Cyprus Federation for Hunting and Wildlife Conservation and animal welfare organisations, it is ensured that at least 50 dogs will be microchipped at each on-site visit. The time and place of the microchipping will be determined after consultation between the interested parties and the respective District Veterinary Offices and Stations.
All interested parties are invited to contact the above stations and offices in good time and to hasten to have their dogs microchipped. Relevant information regarding the implementation of the Scheme will be available on the websites of the Veterinary Services and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

From the Municipality of Geroskipou
Antiquities at the “Pachyammos” Coastal Site of the Municipality of Geroskipou (Plot 223)
At its meeting of 23/7/19, the Municipal Council of Geroskipou addressed the matter of the finds brought to light by the Department of Antiquities’ excavation at the “Pachyammos” coastal site of the Municipality of Geroskipou (plot 223, owned by the Archbishopric).
Given the great archaeological and historical value of the finds (a large Sanctuary complex of the Hellenistic period, with cisterns and hydraulic installations indicating the existence of a grove and gardens associated with the cults practised at the site), the Municipal Council of Geroskipou calls for the excavations to continue with a view to fully uncovering the monument, preserving it and, ultimately, showcasing it. The Department of Antiquities should take measures to protect the site and continue its research undisturbed.
The Municipal Council will seek meetings both with the relevant government departments (Department of Antiquities and Department of Town Planning) and with the owner of the plot (the Archbishopric) in order to advance its decisions.

Condolences from the Municipality of Geroskipou on the death of Alexis Galanos
The Municipality of Geroskipou expresses its sorrow at the untimely death of the Mayor of Famagusta, former President of the Union of Municipalities and former President of the House of Representatives, Alexis Galanos.
The late Alexis Galanos was a historic figure in the country’s political life and in Local Government. Sadly, he passed away with the bitterness of occupation and of the failure of his struggle for the return of Famagusta.
The Municipality of Geroskipou extends its sincere condolences to the wife, children and family of the deceased.
