Event Condemning the Grim Anniversary of the Coup, Held by the Municipality of Geroskipou

An event condemning the treason and honouring the heroes of the Resistance was held today, on the grim anniversary of the Coup, co-organised by the Municipality of Geroskipou and the Fighters of the Resistance Association.

The event, which took place at the Monument of Democracy and Resistance 1974 in Geroskipou, next to the former KEN, began at 8:20 a.m., the hour the Coup was launched, with the sounding of sirens.

The programme included a memorial service led by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Odysseas Aspromallis, addresses by the Mayor of Geroskipou Nikos Palios and the Deputy Mayor of Geroskipou Andreas Siikkis, the recitation of a poem by Dinos Charalambous in memory of the heroes of the Resistance, and a brief address by the President of the Fighters of the Resistance Association, Leontios Filippou.

The event concluded with the laying of wreaths.

Summer Camp of the Municipality of Ierokipia

The Municipality of Ierokipia is organising a camp for children in Year 6 of the Geroskipou, Konia and Timi Primary Schools.

The campers (61 in number), together with their group leaders, departed yesterday, 14/7, for Pelendri and will return on Friday 18/7.

The Municipality of Geroskipou’s camp features a rich programme of educational and recreational activities with full board. The Municipality of Ierokipia covers the greater part of the costs of running the programme as part of its social contribution.

Award of two “green” prizes to the Municipality of Geroskipou.

 

The award ceremony of the Pancyprian prizes of the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CYCERE) for the Green Cities and Green Communities of Cyprus took place on 30 June 2025 at the Presidential Palace.

 

Two prizes were awarded to the Municipality of Geroskipou: the “Green City of Cyprus” prize for the project “Creation and upgrading of green spaces”, in the category “Green Areas – Urban Biodiversity”, and the “Green City of Cyprus” prize for the project “Actions to reduce plastic and strengthen recycling”, in the category “Waste management”.

 

Our Municipality was represented at the ceremony by Mayor Nikos Palios, the Chair of the Green and Environment Committee Georgia Christofi, the representative of “AKTIS” Anna Tselepou and the head of the Green Service Giorgos Stefanidis.

 

Signing of Agreement for the Asphalting of Roads at Geroskipou Municipal Beach

On 2 July 2025, an agreement was signed between the Mayor of Geroskipou, Nikos Palios, and Maria Charalambidou, on behalf of the company Charalambides S. Petros & Brothers Ltd, for the asphalting of roads at Geroskipou Municipal Beach (Germaninas Street and part of Agapinoros Street).

The work, with a total cost of €218,000 plus VAT, will begin within the coming week and is expected to be completed within twenty days.

Visit by the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works to the Municipality of Geroskipou regarding the old Airport – Paphos road

On Friday 27/6 the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works visited the old Airport – Paphos road and subsequently the Geroskipou Town Hall.
In addition to the Committee’s Chairman and Members, the meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayors of Timi and Acheleia, representatives of the Paphos District Self-Government Organisation, the Department of Town Planning and Housing, the Public Works Department, the Department of Lands and Surveys, and the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mayor Nikos Palios briefed those present on the Municipality of Geroskipou’s request concerning the upgrading of the old Airport – Paphos road, which passes through the communities of Acheleia and Timi, and on the steps being taken to move the project forward.
This meeting also confirmed that:
• The Department of Town Planning and Housing has begun the study for the road’s cross-section and will start drawing up a regulatory plan within the current year.
• The Department of Lands and Surveys will have completed the registration of the final section of the road, approximately three km long, by the end of 2025.
• The Public Works Department has begun the study for installing road lighting from the Anarita roundabout up to the Airport entrance. This work is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026.

 

Update on Section D of the Regeneration of the Traditional Core of Geroskipou

The Municipality of Geroskipou, based on information provided by the contractor of the project for the regeneration of the traditional core of Geroskipou (MILTIADES NEOPHYTOU C.E.C. & D.), informs the public that, as of 1 July 2025, construction works will begin on Section D of the project, which includes Archiepiskopou Kyprianou, Spartis and Kanari streets.

The project includes the demolition of existing roads and pavements, earthworks, construction of a new storm water drainage network, installation works for new public utility networks (EAC and CYTA), road lighting and road paving.

On the above streets, for the period of the next three months and until the end of September 2025, works will be carried out and they will remain closed to traffic.

In addition, on Thermopylon, Marathonos, Kouriou and Michalaki Karaoli streets, traffic will be cut off on a rotating and partial basis in order to complete the paving works.

As part of the above phase of works, the regeneration of the car park on Kyprianou street, to the south of the Geroskipou Adult Centre, is also included, and it will remain closed to the public.

Throughout the duration of the works, safe access will be ensured for pedestrians, affected residents and visitors to homes and other businesses, as well as to the car park on Spartis street.

Depending on the progress of the works, and always in good time, a new detailed update will be provided with all the necessary information regarding the remaining phases of the project.
The company’s engineers remain at the disposal of the affected residents to resolve any particular case and to mitigate its impact on them.

Yesterday, 25/6, the Mayor of Geroskipou Nikos Palios handed over to representatives of the Pancyprian Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (Paphos district) the sum of €3525, which was collected from the “Coffee with Love” event held at the Aliathon Resort on 8/6.

The Municipality of Geroskipou aims to establish the event as an institution, with the purpose of supporting the services and programmes of PASYKAF.
