The Vivliodromies is a Panhellenic Children’s Literary Book Reading Competition, organised by the Geitonas Schools. The competition is aimed at pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 of primary school attending public and private schools in Greece, Cyprus and the Greek diaspora. In Cyprus, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the competition. Children are invited to read three (3) literary books during the school year, all of which fall within a single thematic unit. They then take part in a competitive process, working on topics related to the books they have read. The questions in the process cover text comprehension, focus on details, and critical and comparative approaches.
The thematic unit chosen for Vivliodromies 2025 is “Only play carries us through in all weathers”. In the Vivliodromies, children are invited to compete individually or in teams, having read the three (3) books set for their year group. In the case of team participation, teams consist of two (2) to four (4) members who work together during the competition. For the collaboration to be effective, it is recommended that each member has read all the books.
To take part in the competition, an online entry form must be completed no later than 28 March 2025. There is no participation fee.
Pupils are assessed on their understanding of the structure and plot of the books’ content and of the characters, and on their critical approach to the narrative and linguistic elements. The participants are allowed to consult their books during the competition, so that they can enjoy the process without stress.
