Upgrade of the Municipal Beach and Development of the Geroskipou Seafront Promenade

The project will be carried out in two stages, distinguished by the delivery of each construction contract. Each construction contract covers a different scope of work and has its own timetable, since one construction contract precedes the other.
1. ‘Supplementary infrastructure in the coastal zone of the Municipality of Geroskipou, which at this phase includes the development of a parking area (227 spaces), a playground and green spaces”: This includes the construction of playgrounds, beachside sports areas, accessibility infrastructure for people with disabilities, green spaces, landscaping of the surrounding area, and a parking area. The parking area will consist of 227 spaces (12 of which are for people with disabilities) to serve visitors wishing to reach the beach and its facilities. The project covers an area of 9,600 sq.m., with its final surface finished in coloured paving blocks. The playgrounds will cover an area of approximately 574 sq.m. and will include various play equipment such as swings, a playground unit, seesaws, spring riders, and more. Safety rubber flooring will be installed in the playground area, while the remaining part of the project will be finished in coloured paving blocks. Suitable trees (approximately 150) will also be planted at the project site.
2. “Development and Landscaping of the Parallel Seafront Promenades and Public Spaces of the Coastal Area”: this includes the reconstruction and widening of the promenade in front of the hotel units, the construction of a new promenade with soft surfaces in front of the plot belonging to the Holy Archbishopric, the installation of uniform street lighting powered by photovoltaics, and the installation of urban furniture. This project will essentially bring together, modernise and unify the promenade, which grew like Lego (piece by piece) over the past 25 years and has become both depreciated and outdated.
The project is expected to deliver the following benefits:
Increased visitor numbers and tourist flow to the Geroskipou area and the seafront, thanks to the developments and new infrastructure that will be offered to visitors.
Enhanced accessibility of the facilities offered to all population groups, including people with disabilities.
Strengthening the economic development of the Geroskipou area, as the new infrastructure will increase the flow of tourists to Geroskipou, boosting demand for local services and products.
Promotion of sustainable development through the enhancement of the natural environment and the strengthening of sustainability (e.g. the creation of green spaces and the installation of photovoltaic systems to light the promenade).
The project is being implemented within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Programme «THALEIA 2021-2027» with the co-financing of the EU.
