Ayia Marinouda Folk Art Museum
The Folk Art Museum of Ayia Marinouda is located in the village of Ayia Marinouda in the Paphos district. The museum is housed in the residence of Dimitris Christodoulou Pastos and Paraskevi Pastou. The Pastos house was built in 1884 and was renovated and maintained by the Ministry, while it was equipped by the Ayia Marinouda Community Council. It has been open since 2017. It houses a collection of traditional objects sourced from residents of the community as well as from across Cyprus, mainly from the Paphos district. These objects illustrate everyday life, the various farming and livestock occupations practised by the residents of the area, and the different expressions of folk art in Cyprus. The rooms of the house have been arranged to recreate the classic sections of a traditional rural home and to present the traditional occupations.
Main Room
The main room served multiple purposes, as building a house required a long period of time. It was used as a bedroom, kitchen, living room and for many other tasks depending on the occupations of the residents. It was also used as a reception room owing to the lack of space.
Storage Room
The storage room was an important part of the house, as this is where all the tools used in the fields were kept in order to protect them from the weather. It was also used as a work area, for tasks such as weaving clothes and carpets. In addition, it was used to store food for both the family and their animals.
