COOKIES POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to inform users about the website’s use of cookies and to obtain their consent for that use.

  1. What are cookies?

“Cookies” are small files containing information that a website (specifically the web server) stores on a user’s computer, tablet or mobile phone, so that each time the user connects to the website, the website can retrieve this information and provide the user with related services. A typical example of such information is the user’s preferences on a website, as expressed by the choices the user makes on that particular website (e.g. clicking specific “buttons”, searches, advertisements, etc.).

  1. Which law applies?

Cookies are governed by the e-privacy Directive 2002/58/EC as amended by Directive 2009/136/EC (which has been transposed into Greek law by Law 3471/2006), as expressly provided in Recital 173 of the 2016/679 Personal Data Protection Regulation.

Under the applicable law, “The installation of ‘cookies’ is permitted only with the user’s consent and following appropriate information being provided to them.”

For this reason, on the user’s first visit to the website www.geroskipou.org.cy, pop-up windows appear where the visiting user can declare their consent to the installation of the cookies specifically referred to. These are non-functional cookies aimed at improving the products and services presented on the Website, such as: rating or reviewing products and services by the User, ordering free samples, printing discount or other coupons, connecting with social media, configuring settings on audio and video playback devices to adapt information to the user’s personal preferences, statistical analysis cookies concerning the number of visitors to the website and the number of pages viewed without directly identifying the user, and advertising cookies that collect information for online advertising purposes, which is grouped into certain general categories or areas of the user’s interests by examining the web pages the user views and the links they select on other websites, as well as the emails from www.geroskipou.org.cy that they open and the links they select from them, selecting advertisements based only on data that does not allow the direct identification of the user.

There are “cookies” that have been assessed by the Article 29 Working Party* as technically and functionally necessary for establishing the connection to the website or for providing the internet service. For these, the law does not require prior consent.

The same category includes “persistent” “cookies” that are installed for the same purpose and last for a period of a few hours.

  • “Cookies” that are necessary to authenticate the subscriber or user for services that require authentication.
  • “Cookies” that are installed for the security of the subscriber or user, such as “cookies” that detect repeated failed attempts to log in to a user’s account on a particular website.
  • “Cookies” with multimedia content, such as flash player “cookies”, during a session on a website. Such are, for example, the “cookies” installed when a video is played on the website the user has visited.
  • “Cookies” that are necessary to carry out the load balancing technique for a connection to an internet website.
  • “Cookies” that “remember” the subscriber’s or user’s choices regarding the presentation of the website (e.g. “cookies” relating to the choice of language or the presentation of search results on a website).
  • “Cookies” installed through plug-ins on social network websites, relating to the sharing of content among authenticated members who have already logged in.

 

4. How to control cookies

You can delete all cookies already on your computer, and you can set most browsers to prevent cookies from being installed. However, in that case you may have to manually adjust certain preferences each time you visit a website, and some services may also not work.

* WP29: Established under Article 29 of Directive 95/46/EC on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data. The Working Party has an advisory role towards the European Commission but is independent of it.
