International Music Day at the Folk Art Museum in Geroskipou.
I sing and shape with clay…….
the traditional songs of my homeland!!
As part of the events for International Music Day on 21 June 2026, the Department of Antiquities and the Municipality of Geroskipou are organising a free workshop for children on the theme of the traditional music of Cyprus at the Folk Art Museum in Geroskipou.
Through an activity inspired by the music of the island and the Folk Art Museum in Geroskipou, we invite children to discover and sing the traditional songs of our Cyprus. Led by music educator and performer Anna Aristeidou and the musical ensemble ANTAMA, we will explore the traditional instruments of our homeland.
We will get to know at first hand the violin, the lute, the tampoutsia and the pithkiavli. We will identify the materials from which they are made, as well as the category each one belongs to, through interactive musical games. Young and old alike will have the opportunity to listen and sing together well-known and lesser-known play-songs, such as “Pyri pyri to papyri”, “Kamila kamilari”, “Tsimpi tsimpi ton aeto”, and others.
Afterwards, our young friends will have the opportunity to express their imagination by creating small clay vessels, figurines and figures reflecting the impressions and experiences of their musical journey, led by visual artist and ceramicist Maria Michail.
The workshop aims to promote discovery and creative expression through music and art, encouraging children to explore the cultural heritage of our homeland through a playful and educational approach.
