Preventive measures for the control of insects and rodents

The presence of insects and rodents in an area poses risks to public health and, more generally, degrades the quality of life of residents.
With the rise in temperature, insects (cockroaches, mosquitoes) and rodents (mice, rats) are in a state of major proliferation, which is why it is incumbent upon all of us to take individual measures for their prevention and/or control.

To this end, all owners of premises or spaces should faithfully apply the following measures:

1. Hermetically seal, with a suitable cover, all drainage manholes on every premises. The ventilation pipe of the drains should also be closed off with a dense mesh screen.
2. Do not leave open containers, barrels, buckets, old tyres or other similar objects that can hold water inside the yard or near premises. The presence of even a minimal amount of water allows mosquitoes to lay their eggs and multiply.
3. Carry out regular cleaning of the yard and surrounding area of unwanted objects and wild vegetation, and transport the materials to the Koloni Green Point or another licensed Facility.
4. Place household refuse in suitable closed refuse bins or refuse stores until it is collected by the crews of the Municipality of Geroskipou.
5. Have licensed pest-control crews carry out, where deemed necessary, spraying within the private drainage systems of the premises to combat cockroaches and mosquitoes, and place rodenticide preparations in areas or spots where rodents may be present.

The Municipality of Geroskipou, for its part, sensitive to public health matters, sees daily to the cleaning of pavements, plots, abandoned premises and other public spaces, of filth and wild vegetation. In addition, it systematically applies programmes for the control and combating of insects and rodents in public spaces.
