Antiquities at the “Pachyammos” Coastal Site of the Municipality of Geroskipou (Plot 223)

At its meeting of 23/7/19, the Municipal Council of Geroskipou addressed the matter of the finds brought to light by the Department of Antiquities’ excavation at the “Pachyammos” coastal site of the Municipality of Geroskipou (plot 223, owned by the Archbishopric).

Given the great archaeological and historical value of the finds (a large Sanctuary complex of the Hellenistic period, with cisterns and hydraulic installations indicating the existence of a grove and gardens associated with the cults practised at the site), the Municipal Council of Geroskipou calls for the excavations to continue with a view to fully uncovering the monument, preserving it and, ultimately, showcasing it. The Department of Antiquities should take measures to protect the site and continue its research undisturbed.

The Municipal Council will seek meetings both with the relevant government departments (Department of Antiquities and Department of Town Planning) and with the owner of the plot (the Archbishopric) in order to advance its decisions.
