Antiquities at the coastal site of “Pachyammos” in the Municipality of Geroskipou (plot 223)
The Municipal Council of Geroskipou, at its session of 23/7/19, considered the matter of the finds brought to light by the excavation carried out by the Department of Antiquities at the coastal site of “Pachyammos” in the Municipality of Geroskipou (plot 223, owned by the Archbishopric).
Given the great archaeological and historical value of the finds (a large sanctuary complex of the Hellenistic period, with cisterns and hydraulic installations indicating the existence of a grove and gardens connected with the worship carried out at the site), the Municipal Council of Geroskipou calls for the continuation of the excavations with a view to the full uncovering of the monument, its preservation and, ultimately, its promotion. The Department of Antiquities should take measures to protect the site and continue its research undisturbed.
The Municipal Council will seek meetings both with the competent state departments (Department of Antiquities and Department of Town Planning) and with the owner of the plot (the Archbishopric) in order to advance its decisions.
