3rd Lecture of the 21st Series of the Ierokipeion Open University: «Corruption in Cyprus: Causes, Extent and Ways to Combat It»

This event has ended

The Ierokipeion Open University in Pafos invites you to a lecture by Mr. Kyriakos Drousiotis, Economist and Certified Public Accountant-Auditor, who will examine the highly topical issue of corruption in Cyprus. The lecture, entitled «Corruption in Cyprus: Causes, Extent and Ways to Combat It», will take place on Friday, 31 January 2025, at 7:00 p.m., at the Events Hall of the Geroskipou Multipurpose Centre.

During the lecture, Mr. Drousiotis will examine the enduring presence of corruption as a phenomenon that accompanies organised human society. Corruption, in its many forms, remains a challenge for institutions and justice, while its deeper roots often lie in the unchecked conduct of those in power who abuse their position, manipulating institutions and circumventing the law.

Mr. Drousiotis will also analyse the need for prevention, with emphasis on the implementation of objective and scientifically substantiated procedures that target the root of the problem. Combating corruption requires, as he will explain, timely prevention and determination, particularly in environments where impunity reinforces the phenomenon.

The event will be moderated by Mr. Kostas Anastasiadis, Municipal Secretary of the Ierokipia Municipality, while the introduction of Mr. Drousiotis will be given by Ms. Julia Hadjidimitriou, television presenter.

The lecture is open to the public, which may attend either in person or via «Radio Pafos Pancyprian» on the frequencies 93.7 FM (Pafos), 98.8 FM (Nicosia, Larnaca, Famagusta, Polis Chrysochous) and 95.5 FM (Limassol). In addition, it is possible to follow it online via the website www.radiopafos.com.
